The first week goes better if you don't try to win it.
Days 1 to 3: count only
Eat as normal and log everything plant-based, including the garlic in the sauce and the pepper on your eggs. Don't change anything. You want an honest picture.
Day 4: look at the gaps
Open the week. Which categories are thin? Which colours haven't shown up? In Eating30 the Eat the Rainbow card shows the colour gaps at a glance, and the circle shows your count so far.
Days 5 to 7: add three easy things
Not ten. Three. Something like:
- A bag of mixed seeds, sprinkled on breakfast. Three or four plants straight away.
- A tin of mixed beans, thrown into whatever you're cooking.
- One fresh herb you don't usually buy. Dill, mint, coriander.
What not to do
Don't buy a basket of things you don't know how to cook. They'll sit in the fridge, and you'll feel bad about it. The habit is easier when the new plants are small additions to meals you already like.
At the end of the week you'll have a number. Whatever it is, next week's target is that number plus a few. When the new week starts, Eating30 sends a short recap of where you landed, if you've switched reminders on.
